WOLF-0308
Overview

Versatile MXC HD-SDI Capture, Process, and Display with WOLF FGX
This versatile MXC capture, process and display module includes WOLF’s Frame Grabber eXtreme (FGX), built on Xilinx FPGA hardware. This board accepts multiple simultaneous inputs and can output multiple HD-SDI formats. The module can also accept video sources from a GPU DisplayPort output or from a PCIe DMA stream for real-time conversion to HD-SDI output.
The raw data from each channel can be streamed with sub-frame latency to the host system or to a GPU for storage, analysis, enhancement, encode or display.
The WOLF FGX high-performance engine provides the flexibility required for fast, cost-effective MCOTS customization, allowing the module to be modified to interface with many video standards or system hosts.,
Block Diagram
The block diagram illustrates an MXC FGX configured for SDI and CVBS ingest, showing how multiple simultaneous inputs are captured and routed through conversion/formatting logic. It highlights the PCIe streaming path to a host/GPU for analysis or encode and the conversion/transmit paths used to deliver HD-/3G-SDI outputs.
Features
WOLF-0308 is a harsh-environment MXC video capture module designed for sub-frame ultra low-latency ingest of mixed digital and analog sources. It combines two independent 3G/HD-SDI capture engines and two independent CVBS (NTSC/PAL/SECAM) capture engines, with each channel streaming raw video to the system or GPU over a PCI Express x4 Gen2 interface.

FAQ
Choose WOLF-0308 when you need ultra low-latency capture of mixed digital and analog sources (SDI + CVBS) and want to stream raw video to a host system or GPU for downstream processing.
This module is typically selected for:
- Systems ingesting both 3G/HD-SDI and analog CVBS simultaneously
- Architectures where the compute/encode happens elsewhere (host/GPU), but capture must be deterministic
- Programs that value a long-life, configurable capture engine with the option to add outputs by request
If you need a full multi-format conversion and output module, a broader FGX/MXC2 design may be a better fit.
The baseline intent is raw capture with sub-frame latency streamed over PCIe:
- Two independent SDI capture engines plus two independent CVBS capture engines
- Each channel streams raw video to the system or GPU over PCIe
Optional capabilities (configuration dependent) can add:
- Independent SDI outputs, and/or
- GPU Direct Output where a DisplayPort 1.2 source can be converted to SDI output
This is useful when you want to keep the capture path deterministic and push compute/encode to a GPU or host without rebuilding the ingest stack.
Confirm early:
- PCIe interface: PCIe Gen2 x4—ensure throughput is adequate for your simultaneous raw-stream channel plan.
- Input types: 2x SDI (SMPTE-292M/424M) plus 2x CVBS (NTSC/PAL/SECAM).
- Optional outputs: if you require SDI outputs or DP-to-SDI conversion, treat that as an ordering requirement.
- Software baseline: Windows and Linux drivers are referenced; RTOS drivers are also mentioned as available.
Most issues on this class of module are bandwidth planning and locking the exact output needs early enough to avoid carrier rework.
Because there is no single standard order-code table in the datasheet, the key tradeoffs are typically:
- Whether SDI outputs are included (and how many)
- Whether DP-to-SDI “GPU Direct Output” is required
- Alternate capture interfaces (e.g., STANAG 3350) by request
