Fellow (Chief Engineer)

Reports to: VP of Engineering

SUMMARY

Working from our office in Uxbridge, Ontario and reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Fellow (Chief Engineer) will be an active member of the Engineering team. The candidate will perform detailed digital designs of embedded real time processors and FPGAs. They will be involved in performing and leading all life cycle stages of FPGA design: selecting the target FPGA device, generating and synthesizing the FPGA HDL, generating the verification Test Bench components, simulating the FPGA target code with the test bench components to verify the design, and integrating the FPGA on the target CCA.

Some of the key tasks they will perform are: circuit analysis, simulation, design documentation, design verification testing, breadboard construction, hardware/software systems integration for complex systems.

The candidate will be responsible for new product development, using the customer’s specifications and requirements and executing technical tasks to assist in the design, development and manufacture of video graphic boards used in complex sea, land and aerospace applications.

This position is not a management role. It is however a role that will include mentorship of Senior Engineers, Engineers and Technologists.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

The following ARE required:

  • 10+ years of practical (hands on) engineering experience designing video graphic boards, integrating or debugging hardware with digital content.
  • Must be a Electronics Engineer, who has a high amount of experience working with 6G, 12G, SERDES interfaces and beyond.
  • Must have current broadcast video environment experience.
  • Must be able to write modular, reusable code, and add to existing, structured, in-house IP library.
  • Expert in Verilog, Systems Verilog and VHDL, including simulation, test benches and verification techniques.
  • Expert in Xilinx Series 7 or Ultrascale design and development using Vivado.
  • Expert design experience with high speed interfaces such as PCI Express Gen3, 3G-SDI, DisplayPort, GigE or 10GigE LAN.
  • Expert with any of the following video standards: 4Kp60 video, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.3, SMPTE-424M, SMPTE-424M, DVI, Analog Video (NTSC/PAL), MPEG 2, H.264, H.265, JPEG 2000 encoding, Composite Video Encoding and BT-656.
  • Experience with embedded software / microprocessors.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Technical writing is well structured, effective in purpose, free of grammatical errors and succinct.
  • Experience with the use and application of digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, function generators, in an ESD protected lab environment.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Visio, PCB Layout Software, and a high-level of general PC knowledge.
  • Experience in Linux/Unix environments, including shell scripting.
  • Experience in revision control systems such as SVN, GIT and a high degree of proper disciplined coding practice.

    IT Technician

    SUMMARY

    Working from our office in Uxbridge, Ontario and reporting to the CEO, the IT Technician will lead the IT department and manage our IT Systems. The candidate will be responsible for:

    • Providing technical expertise to support our team to solve network and other computer-related problems

    • Assemble, flash firmware/software and prepare prototype, pre-production and production grade electronics products for test.

    • 10+ years of practical (hands on) engineering experience designing video graphic boards, integrating or debugging hardware with digital content.
    • Must be a hardware design engineer, who has a high amount of experience working with 6G, 12G, SERDES interfaces and beyond.
    • Expert with any of the following video standards: SMPTE-292M, SMPTE-424M, DisplayPort 1.2 and greater, HDMI 2.0 and greater, DVI, Analog video (NTSC/PAL), MPEG 2, H.264, H.265 and BT-656
    • Expert design experience with high speed interfaces such as PCI Express Gen3, Gen4, InfiniBand, GigE or 10GigE LAN.
    • Must have current broadcast video experience.
    • Must be able to write modular, reusable code, and add to existing, structured, in-house IP library.
    • Expert in Verilog, Systems Verilog and VHDL, including simulation (test benches & verification).
    • Expert in modern FPGA design and development.
    • Expert knowledge and skills using Xilinx Vivado.
    • Experience with embedded software / microprocessors.
    • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
    • Technical writing is well structured, effective in purpose, free of grammatical errors and succinct.
    • Experience with the use and application of digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, function generators, in an ESD protected lab environment.
    • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Visio, PCB Layout Software, and a high-level of general PC knowledge.
    • Experience in Linux/Unix environments, including shell scripting.
    • Experience in revision control systems such as SVN, GIT and a high degree of proper disciplined coding practice.
    • A “can-do” attitude with a desire to be a team player.

    The following are NOT required, but would be considered an asset:

    • Expert with modern synthesis, place and route EDA tools.
    • Experience with DO254, DO178, and DO164 (Highly Valued).
    • Experience with Cadence, Orcad and Solidworks
    • Experience with the use of Gerber Viewer, Computer Aided Design (CAD)
    • Experience with NVIDIA, AMD, CUDA or OpenCL.
    • Knowledge of ROME-1 or NASA design standards.
    • To be considered for this role, you must state the code name of NVIDIA’s latest generation graphics processors in your cover letter (hint: The previous generation was Maxwell 2).
    • EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS

      Required Education

      • BSEE, Bachelor of Engineering, or related technical degree from an accredited university.

      Desired Education

      • PHD or Masters of Electrical Engineering or related technical PHD or Master’s degree from an accredited university.
