WOLF XMC-FGX-SDI-4IO Frame Grabber eXtreme Modules

WOLF’s Frame Grabber eXtreme powers the XMC-FGX-SDI-4IO providing Video Capture, Conversion and Display.

The versatile WOLF XMC-FGX-SDI-4IO (WOLF-3080) module accepts multiple simultaneous inputs and can convert to multiple output formats, including 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and analog (CVBS, STANAG 3350 or VGA). The module is powered by a WOLF Frame Grabber eXtreme (FGX) capture engine which leverages Xilinx® FPGAs to provide capture and conversion of video data from one standard to another. The module can also accept video sources from a GPU DisplayPort output or from a PCIe DMA stream for real-time conversion to SDI or analog output. The raw data from each channel can be streamed with sub-frame latency to the host system or to a GPU for analysis, enhancement, encode or display.

These WOLF XMC modules are designed to operate in harsh aerospace and defense environments. They are tested to meet MIL-STD-810 and MIL-HDBK-217, and meet the quality standards of IPC-A-610 Class 3 and IPC 6012 Class 3. They have an extended operating temperature from -40° to +85°C. The module has extremely low operating power, using under 7.5W.

The module provides a flexible platform for MCOTS requirements that include alternate video output formats. It’s worth noting that with the release of the latest NVIDIA® Pascal® and AMD Polaris® GPU architectures GPUs no longer include native support for analog output. This module provides continued support for legacy analog inputs and outputs as well as support for cutting edge digital formats.

Craig McLaren, WOLF’s CEO, says “WOLF’s FGX provides great video format flexibility. Modules using this technology can be easily modified for different input and output configurations. If a customer has unique needs then the flexibility of the FGX allows WOLF to react quickly to meet their requirements.”

XMC modules can be used in a wide variety of applications, with diverse system integration challenges. This module supports VPWR of +5V or +12V and is configurable for ANSI VITA 42 (XMC 1.0) and ANSI VITA 61 (XMC 2.0). Windows and Linux drivers are available as well as RTOS drivers. It was designed to be fully compliant with VITA 46.9 I/O connector mapping for 3U and 6U VPX configurations. It is available with conduction cooled or air cooled options, and optional conformal coating.

Further modifications are possible, such as pin mapping changes, rear connector height, enhanced cooling technologies and alternate video interfaces.
