WOLF's new VPX3U-GM107-SDI-4IO and VPX3U-E8860-SDI-4IO VPX boards bring a tremendous amount of functionality to a single 3U VPX board by integrating both a powerful GPU and WOLF’s Frame Grabber eXtreme (FGX) capture engine to create a complete Video Processing Unit (VPU). Combining these technologies on a single board provides capture, process, encode and display functionality using only one 3U VPX slot, allowing system owners to maximize their per slot investment. Aerospace and defence companies using these boards can significantly reduce overall system costs while meeting their SWAP targets.
WOLF's Frame Grabber eXtreme (FGX) capture engine leverages Xilinx® technology to provide capture and conversion of video data from one standard to another, allowing these boards to support multiple simultaneous I/O, with combinations of up to six inputs and nine outputs. The I/O capability includes up to four 3G-SDI inputs and four 3G-SDI outputs. The boards also provides support for CVBS/STANAG inputs and outputs, and DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI, and DVI outputs.
WOLF’s FGX capture engine has direct memory access (DMA) to the GPU’s memory for GPU processing, complex analysis and CUDA or OpenCL processing. By including both the FGX and the GPU on one board WOLF has designed a powerful and flexible solution which eliminates the SBC data rebroadcast traffic jams that commonly occur when a two board solution is required (that is when one board required for capture and a second board is required for process and display). A space-saving and power-saving single board solution provides clear advantages.

The VPX3U-GM107-SDI-4IO includes an NVIDIA® Maxwell GM107 28nm GPU, with 1.2 TFLOPS of processing power. Inputs can be routed to the GM107 GPU for advanced processing or encoding, and then output directly using one of the native display formats or through the FGX engine for conversion to another format, such as SDI or CVBS/STANAG. This board uses 25 to 55 watts, tunable to meet power/performance requirements.
The VPX3U-E8860-SDI-4IO includes an AMD Radeon™ E8860 28nm GPU, with 786 GFLOPS of processing power. Inputs can be routed to the E8860 for advanced processing or encoding, and then output directly using one of the native display formats or through the FGX engine for conversion to another format, such as SDI or CVBS/STANAG. This board uses 30 to 60 watts, tunable to meet power/performance requirements. This AMD GPU also provides support for RTOS drivers, providing an excellent solution for those who require RTOS for safety critical applications.
These boards have been designed to operate in rugged environments, with an extended operating temperature range of -40° to +85° C and the ability to withstand extreme shock and vibration. WOLF boards are designed and tested to meet MIL-STD-810 and RTCA DO-160, and manufacturing standards such as IPC 6012 CLASS-3.
By combining all of these design elements WOLF has created rugged, powerful complete video processing units (VPUs), able to capture, process, encode and display using a single, dense 3U VPX solution.
